Historical content, modern day skills. In this interactive lesson, students will hone the art of negotiation by stepping into the shoes of female laundry workers in 1910s Vancouver. This lesson uses the backdrop of historical labour disputes to introduce students to key strategies in everyday conflict resolution.

Conflict resolution skills are vital to navigating everyday challenges. Through real life scenarios, learners test their ability to equalize a power imbalance in conflict. In this lesson, students will practice conflict resolution strategies, be able to identify and shift power dynamics and learn practical ways to craft stronger arguments to resolve conflict.

Biases, whether conscious or unconscious, can impair one's ability to resolve and address conflicts. Through a guided reflective exercise, students will explore how unconscious bias and affinity bias shows up in their own life. In this lesson, students will learn that it is crucial to actively seek out viewpoints and evidence that challenge our own beliefs. This is a foundational skill that students need to successfully navigate conflicts in their lives.
